It might just be

They say it might
or snow
this evening
but the last of the clouds
have scudded their way
across the sky
leaving no trace
no trail
just pure blue
and the evening sun
still bathes the world
in a glow
like a new life
that has just begun
and you may have noticed
the snow hasย almost disappeared
the neighbours come out now
into the tail end of this day
and they donโ€™t move as quickly
as they have these past months
heads no longer down
against the cold
they greet each other
and stand
for a while
under the blue
in the glow
on the drying pavement
in celebration
of this new thing
which might just
be spring

  1. Ha, I had my first ‘standing out on our back patio’ conversation with a new-ish neighbor this past week, as this thing that just might be Spring is finally descending upon Ohio ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Well hello! That’s a lovely picture you’ve left me with – our patio is as yet still under mountains of snow. I think “it might just be” closer in your area ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I love the human face on this serene and hopeful landscape. It’s nice to see and recognize your neighbors without their hats/hoods/scarves…everyone crawling out of those winter caves. ๐Ÿ™‚ “this new thing”–perfect

    • Aw thanks! It was one of those poems that just floods out of you in the moment. I tinkered with it a bit but it was just a window on my thoughts as I looked out at the melting and pondered the forecast ๐Ÿ™‚

    • You’re the second person with a story like that – I take it as a very good sign! It’s turned cold again here but I feel like porch time isn’t too far away now.
