The Silence

I’ve come to love the silence
of a windswept night.

I’ve come to love the silence
of the dawning light.

Alone beneath the sky
I watch as shapes slip by.

Dragons and fairies dance
in the forest glens
and I am drawn in, entranced.

I have left my other life behind,
exhaust and pavement and people running blind.

I live simply now, at peace,
in step with nature’s rhythmic beat.

Moss and heather cushion my feet,
the wind in the pines lulls me to sleep.

My heart is all gladness and light
as stars sparkle overhead across the billowing night.
