This Snow Moon

The silver-blue light of the full moon –
the Snow Moon –
reaches a narrow sliver across my bed,
sparkling through the crystalline tendrils
of the icicles by the window.
Outside, the light glints
off the snow-dusted roofs of the nearby houses
and falls across their brick walls.
I lie in bed
watching the blackness of the sky,
hoping to see faint stirrings of colour;
the forecasted Northern Lights.
But all there is now
is the silvery moon,
the black sky
and the sparse twinkling of the brightest stars.
