Winter Moon

Full moon glows blue
On the year’s first dusting of snow
Clinging to corners and curbs
And the cold, hard ground.
A howling wind clears the sky
Of smoky grey clouds
Leaving the stars to shine
At the outer edges of the halo.
A sharp, biting cold
Has taken hold
Lifting the fog,
Layering puddles in brittle, black ice,
Huddling the passers-by along.
Dragon breath floats up from their lips
Pausing
As they disappear,
It hangs softly about
The tiny lights draped across
Fences and trees,
Shimmering icily
A white shadow
Free to disappear.
